The pepper plants were started in February this year so that they would be ready to plant in May. We never plant peppers and tomatoes here in zone 7 before mid-May. This year we expanded the garden and decided to try some different varieties of tomatoes. We use t-posts and nylon string to support the tomato plants. This year we have: Millionaire, Green Diamond, Sensation, Rainbow, Doucet, Plum 100, Martino Roma, and Chef’s Choice Orange.
Planted a new herb and Tea garden this year.
Harvesting greens this week. We have spinach, Chard, bok choi, kale, peas, mustard, romaine, and white stem cabbage. The brassicas are not ready yet but broccoli, brocolini, cabbage, and cauliflower are growing fast.
This week will be the time to finally plant the tomato, peppers, and eggplant plants. They have been growing under artificial lights so they need to spend some time in natural sunlight before moving to their permanent home.
The new project for the farm this year is a cattle panel green house. We are expanding the garden so we need room for all the seedlings that we are starting.
The cool weather is here and the garden has only a few things left growing. The leaves have been falling so it is time to collect them for composting. We have several large piles that will sit till next year and some that have been shredded that will go in the bin.
Last night dropped to 32 degrees which means all the summer crops that were left froze. The fall crops look great and are loving the cold weather.
Started seeds that were in a pumpkin that I purchased at an international market. The vines have taken over the entire back of the garden. Planted other pumpkins on a trellis that grew some bright orange squash.
